Becoming an employer or admitted body in the ERPF
Admission policy
ERPF’s Admission Policy sets out the approach and requirements to admitting new employers to the Fund.
Scheme employers considering outsourcing services to a third party provider, and providers seeking to deliver those services, should carefully consider the associated implications and regulatory requirements.
Employers are advised to contact ERPF at the earliest opportunity to discuss the process of applying for admission to the Fund, in particular when applying for admitted body status.

Information for academies
Academies and Multi-Academy Trusts are scheduled scheme employers; therefore all non-teaching staff are entitled to membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme. Employees can opt out of the LGPS at any point.
ERPF’s Academies Policy sets out the funding principles that apply to Academies and Multi-Academy Trusts. This includes the fund’s approach to actuarial valuations, contribution rates, asset allocation and the responsibilities of Academies and Multi-Academy Trusts within the pension scheme framework.

We recommend that the academy contacts the ERPF as early as possible when going through an academy conversion, to determine what responsibilities as an employer you will have. Every LGPS fund is slightly different therefore it is important to discuss conversion with the relevant fund itself.

Information for parish and town councils
Parish and town councils are eligible to participate in the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). Before joining, there are a number of formal steps and requirements that must be completed.
Councils interested in joining the LGPS should contact the Employer Governance team to receive guidance on the application process.
